Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday allowed the annual Moharrum procession from Bhendi Bazaar to Mazgaon’s cemetery from 4-7 in the afternoon on August 20 with conditions due to Covid-19.
The procession will consist of seven trucks carrying five Tazias (Replica Mausoleum Imam Hussain) with 15 people in each truck and will not exceed 100.
They must double vaccinate and complete 14 days after the second dose.
Only 25 of them will enter the grave.
There is no crowd that will be permitted at a certain point of procession.
This will be the only procession in the representative capacity on behalf of the Shia community in the state.
The direction by the judicial bench k k k k k k k k k k k k k k k k k curing and prithviraj chavan came on the petition by all-india idaara-e-tahafuz-hussaiyat who said the unlock guidelines August 9 lit the procession and asked Muslims to observe Moharrum at home.
In August 2020, HC only allowed one tazia with five people in the truck.
Senior Advocate Rajendra Shirodkar, for NGOs, said it would look for the same command with more people on August 20 (Ashura holy day).
“Because the situation is last year’s grave, limited people are permitted.
This year, there is relaxation by the government,” he added.
Applicant applicant Poornima Kantharia said the latest guidelines did not allow religious procession and would be difficult for the police to control the crowd.
Tated justice said, “Today’s position is that you have relaxed all the other things.” Shirodkar said last year the procession did not violate HC’s orders.
