Hyderabad: Telangana High Court on Thursday tried to find out from the state government whether it plans to allow large procession and immersion idol during the upcoming Chaturthi Ganesh.
The Chairman of Judge Hima Kohli and Justice B Vijyasen Reddy gave the time of six days to deliver the stand.
“It should be remembered, the pandemic has not ended,” said the bench while hearing the request submitted by the Advocate Mamidi Venumadhav who wanted the state government to keep Lake Hussainsagar clean and prohibit soaking ganesh and durga idols by their respective festivals.
“While the High Court has passed the previous order, directing the country to keep hussainsagar and other lakes free of idol immersion, the authorities never implemented them (court orders) seriously,” Applicants argue.
The high court bench also underlined the need to protect the lake and asked the state to submit a written statement that described the steps he took to keep the lake clean.
This case will appear again to hear on August 11.
“Our religious sentiment should not burden our needs to save our nature and preserve valuable lakes for our welfare,” Bench said.
