PANAJI: After the Directorate of Transportation submitted a status report on the installation of meters in a taxi, the Bombay High Court in Goa said it was “far from satisfactory”, and grilling the government about its poor implementation.
“….
It seems that only 65-75 meters of digital costs are installed every day,” said the bench.
“At this level, it is evident from status reports, more than 2,000 vehicles have not been installed with meters, although orders for the installation are complete.
At this level, it is very doubtful how the department will be able to respect its commitment.” The bench also observed that the communication department to the enforcement agency to detect and order a motorcycle taxi that has not installed digital tariff meters, dated November 15, on the same day the status report was submitted to the High Court.
“We hope the transportation / relevant authority department to provide more details of the steps taken by the institution to detect and order motorbike taxis that have not installed digital tariff meters, as well as the number of vehicles found without meter digital costs,” benches consisting From Judge Dere and M Pitale stated.
In a status report, Transport Director Rajan Satardekar said that the department would issue public notices within five days, notify all motorized taxi owners that they should not eliminate their vehicles without meter digital costs, and if there are such a vehicle.
Cut and tight action will be taken in terms of law.
With regard to vehicles that have not installed or ordered an appointment for installation, the department states that it has “blocked the process of updating the permit and fitness certificate for the vehicle unless the digital tariff meter is installed”.
“This department is further in the process of compiling data and within 15 days, permits of all vehicles that do not have fitted or ordered appointments for the installation will be canceled.” The department added that it would recover the canceled permits only after the vehicle was equipped with a digital cost meter.
Until now, 4,109 vehicles were equipped with meters, and 2,631 bookings were waiting for installation, the director was delivered.
“Even though the process is expected to be completed on October 31, 2021, the same time takes further time …
The department has continued the process of receiving the order and installation of meters to all advanced vehicle owners,” he was stated.
Satardekar added that the department had written to enforcement agencies to detect and order motorbike taxis that had not installed a digital cost meter.
“The agency has been asked to ensure that there is no vacuum taxi without a digital tariff meter installed,” added the Transport Director.
In the last hearing, the Goa government convinced HC that the license of taxi owners who failed to install digital meters on October 31, would have their license canceled, and the transportation director convinced the court that the process would be completed on October 31.
The state government has been submitted to the court that has made decisions to subsidize all device costs (including backend and data service fees).
The High Court has closely monitored the installing of digital fixes in a taxi after the TTAG submitted a second insulting request within two years for their installation delays.
