Madurai: Madras High Court on Wednesday Looking for a status report from the center, on a request that is looking for directions to the central government and the state to take steps for the release of 68 Fishermen Tamil Nadu arrested by Sri Lanka Navy forces in December.
During the holidays sitting on Wednesday, the Justice Division C v Karthikey and Srimathy was looking for a status report from the center, after taking into account that the government had sent communication to the Sri Lankan government in this matter.
During the hearing, Advocate General R Shunmugasundam, emerged for the country, filed that all fishermen had been returned in Judicial custody by the court in Sri Lanka.
He handed over that the accusation of the fishermen was that they had boiled into the Sri Lankan territorial waters.
He then said that the chairman of Minister M K Stalin had written to the center who was looking for urgent intervention for direct liberation of fishermen.
Lawyer Assistant General L Victoria Gowri, emerged for the center, handed over that Indian authorities had opened a diplomatic channel for talks with Sri Lankan authorities in this matter.
He sought time to submit a detailed report about the steps taken by the center.
The court was hearing litigation of the public interest submitted by G Thirmurugan, which was the coordinator of Tamil Nadu Meenavar Urmai Padukapppu Iakkam in Ramanathapuram district.
In his petition, Thirmaurugan stated that a total of 68 Fishermen Tamil Nadu was arrested by Sri Lanka’s authority between December 18 and December 20.
He stated that the disinfectant was sprayed with the fishermen by the authorities after they were taken to Sri Lanka.
This is a human rights violation.
The video of the fishermen disguised in a chemical solution had been viral on social media, he said.
He is looking for liberation of fishermen and their ship.
This case was postponed until December 31.
