HC ultimatum when installing CCTVs at Chandni Chowk

New Delhi: Delhi High Court on Monday ordered the City Police Commissioner to ensure steps to install CCTV cameras at key points in Chandni Chowk, failing which he would remain present before it on February 28.
“No dawning on you that there is a delay.
What steps have you taken from the last date when installing CCTVS? Did you take a few simple steps? Do not even lift your little finger until now,” a bench of justice Vipin Sanghi and Jastmeet Singh observed.
“We have issued directions repeatedly, it fell on deaf ears.
We were forced to pass the order as it was because nothing happened.
After this order, now even the officers would get up,” Bench told the counsel for Delhi police when he urged the court not to call the chief of police.
HC deadline came while hearing the petition by Chandni Chowk Sarv Vyapar Mandal looking CCTVS authorities to install and remove illegal hawkers and vendors of no-hawking zones in Chandni Chowk, which has recently undergone redevelopment.
Anyone who penetrated the public sphere must be removed and can not be allowed that the entire sidewalk on market abuse without leaving room for people to walk, said the court, asking the company to prepare a plan city street sellers “for God’s sake”.
“The direction we are very clear.
We are not asking you to carve out an exception for members of the Association of the applicant.
You (MCD North) did not understand the problem.
If you take the plan (Vending Street), this situation can be defused.
So first of all set the ball rolling and formulate plan, “said Bench.
“The whole pavement covered with shrimp, make people might not run.
Please, please for God’s sake, do not make the planning and communication at the last moment,” the bench said, adding that “you all make a total mess in this law”.
It also directed that the experts nominated from Shahjanabad Redevelopment Corporation, Delhi School of Planning and IIT Delhi “immediately” without delay in this case relates to the preparation of the plan of street sellers.
Previous court observed that no executive or political willingness to eliminate illegal hawkers and vendors from the streets and banned Lutyens’ Delhi, there is no obvious place in the city of unauthorized squatters.
