HDMC plans a shelter for homeless workers

Hubballi: Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation has identified seven unused community spaces that will be converted into shelters for homeless workers who have traveled from other parts of Karnataka to work here.
HDMC has sent proposals to the state government approval and plan to spend around RS 1 Crore on this plan.
HDMC, in a survey, identified 222 homeless workers who had traveled to Hubballi from various villages throughout Karnataka.
Civic Corporation has two shelter places in Hubballi and Dharwad and they can accommodate 52.
And 40 homeless workers, respectively.
To accommodate other homeless workers, seven community spaces will be used.
After that, the HDMC commissioner, said this community hall was not used for several years and will be used “to protect urban homeless workers”.
Two such halls in Dharwad and five in Hubballi, he said detailed reports on the development of community space, such as strengthening swamps, painting, and providing basic facilities to workers.
Itnal said that after the approval of the government, the development of Community Hall will begin and is expected to end at the end of December.
NooLvi added that livelihood mission would discuss concern urban street vendors by facilitating access to suitable space, institutional credit, social security, and skills to access market opportunities that appear.
