Kathmandu: The opposition leader Nepal Sher Bahadur Deuba is likely to form a small cabinet on Tuesday, a day after the Supreme Court directing President Bidya Devi Bhandari to appoint the head of Prime Minister Nepal.
At least two senior leaders of Nepal Congress (NC) told Kathmandu newspapers that a small cabinet, with around seven members, is likely to be formed when Deuba, 74, took office oath on Tuesday.
“We have decided to form a small cabinet at first,” Bal Krishna Khand, the head of the whip of NC said.
“We want to form a coalition government and have asked other alliance partners to join the government led by Deuba,” he said.
According to a NC leader, two of Congress and as much, or even only one, from the Communist Party Nepal (Maoist Center) tended to be appointed by the minister.
With the Nepal Madhav Kumar faction from the CPN-UML decided to break the relationship with the opposition alliance, Deuba might face a hard time winning the voice of trust, the report said.
The Supreme Court on Monday reversed the decision of Prime Minister K P Sharma May 16 to dissolve the House of Representatives and ordered the appointment of Deuba as Prime Minister.
The constitutional bench of five members led by Cholendra Judge Chair Shumsher Rana said that oil claims against the position of Prime Minister was not constitutional.
Restoring the house again – The court has recovered the previous house on February 23 after the oil dissolved it on December 20 – the bench had ordered to make arrangements to hold a house meeting at 5 pm on July 18.
In the order of constitutional turmoil said President Bhandari’s decision to reject Deuba’s claim to form a new government was not constitutional.
Although the APEX court order has paved the way for Deuba to become the new prime minister, for now, Deuba must secure a majority vote in parliament to survive as prime minister for 275 members of the house.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Oil asked President Bhandari at his official residency of Sheetal Niwas on Monday after the APEX court gave their steps to dissolve the House of Representatives, not constitutional.
