Head of Pentagon Lloyd Austin: Myanmar Military Act ‘Flat Unacceptable’

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin solves the actions of Myanmar’s military ruler on Tuesday and urges regional blocks to continue to demand violence.
Myanmar, also called Burma, has been destroyed by violence by its security forces against people who protested military power seizures in February.
Austin praised the relationship between Southeast Asian countries because his efforts to resolve the crisis, including the consensus achieved by Myanmar’s military leader in April.
Five-point documents call for immediate ending the violence and the commencement of dialogue among competing parties, with ASEAN messengers specifically mediating in the conversation.
However, special envoys still have not been appointed.
“Myanmar’s military refusal to respect the rights of Burmese people who cannot be revoked and to maintain their basic welfare is flatly unacceptable,” said Austin in a lecture in Singapore.
“A military is there to serve his people, not the other way around.
And so we called the Myanmar military to comply with the consensus of five ASEAN points and to forge eternal peace,” he added.
“ASEAN clearly plays a key role or can play a key role.
We will certainly continue to encourage ASEAN to continue working this problem,” said Austin.
He said the US would work with partners in this region to urge the Myanmar military to “move towards the right” and release civilians who have been imprisoned.
Austin, who was on a tour of Southeast Asia, met with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Tuesday.
He also met Defense Minister Eng Hen to reaffirm the bonds of countries, according to a joint statement.
Retired four-star General hopes to strengthen relations with other Southeast Asian allies in the coming days and will visit Vietnam and the Philippines in the middle of the disputed southern Chinese sea, which is mostly claimed by China.
“As Prime Minister Lee has advised, we do not ask countries in the region to choose between the United States and China,” Austin said.
“In fact, many of our partnerships in the area are older than the People’s Republic of China themselves.
That is why we expand our important work with countries throughout the Indo-Pacific and with ASEAN itself, a critical body that carries the region together, Offers everyone’s voice, builds deeper cooperation habits, “he said.
