Mumbai: Reducing hearing, dry mouth, pulsating headaches and conjunctivitis are some of the more recent symptoms seen in Covid-19 patients.
Covid-19 task unit members urged doctors to suspect Covid even in cases where signs of coughing, throat pain, shortness of breath did not exist.
Registering several developing symptoms, Dr.
Rahul Pandit, Covid Taskforce members, saying difficulties in hearing, conjunctivitis, extreme weaknesses, dry mouths and reducing saliva secretions, long-lasting headaches and skin rashes can be signs of Covid-19 too.
“Even though this disease has existed for 17 months, newer symptoms are still developing and we need to watch them,” he said, speaking at an online conference chaired by CM Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday.
Globally, there are several documented sensorineural hearing cases associated with Covid-19.
The inflammation of the auditory or lumps caused by viral infections can affect the same hearing as it affects the sense of smell, Dr.
Samir Bhargava, head of ENT at RN Cooper Hospital.
“But, we haven’t seen exponential leaps if there is a sudden hearing loss even though we are alert because viral infection is known to cause it,” he said, adding that such patients need treatment with steroids.
Dr.
Sanjay Oak, Chair of Taskforce, said that during the second wave driven by the Delta variant, mostly presented only gastrointestinal symptoms, including diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
Even fever can be present in various forms, he said.
Some are not fever, some get it in sudden bursts, some in a two-three-day interval, while in many things it completely subsides just to return with severity.
“Fever profiles can vary greatly,” he said.
