Coimbatore: Minister of Electricity V Senthil Balaji on Tuesday said the Ministry of Health was on his way to identify 87,000 strange people who had not taken a vaccine dose in the district.
He said people who were not vaccinated were more susceptible to Covid-19 contracts and infecting others.
The minister said about 27,90,400 qualified populations over 18 years in the district to be investigated, 27,02,946 of them had taken the first dose of vaccines.
“We will identify 87,454 people left and convince them to take Jab.” He said 80.98% of the eligible population in the district was fully vaccinated.
“The remaining people are constantly being reminded of taking the second dose like and when the same thing is due.
Of the 1.61 lakh children in the age group 15-18 years, more than one lakh children have taken Jab so far.
The rest will be vaccinated in the coming days.
“The minister said more than 9,000 swab samples were being tested in the district every day, compared to 6,000 a few days ago.
“The steps are taken to test 12,000 samples a day.” When asked about the crowd at the stores on Saturday, Balaji said a meeting would be held with traders to manage the situation.
“Tight action will begin against them if they fail to control the crowd in stores.” He said they had prepared more than 12,000 beds, including 4,691 in private hospitals, to treat covid patients.
“Because the number of positive cases that arrived at the City Hospital from the neighboring district gradually increased, steps were taken to test those who accompanied them in government and private health facilities.” The minister said 152 specialized officers were deployed in every city company ward, Panchayats and Municipal villages to identify new cases and take steps to curb deployment.
