Pune: Dam that supplies water to Pune adds 1.3 thousand cubic feet (TMC) in the last two days after heavy rain spells in the catchment area.
It’s enough to meet the city’s needs for a month.
Collective storage in four dams at Khadakwasla Circle reached 11 TMC on Tuesday morning, with stock in Panphocket and Khadakwasla increased to 45%.
Tanghar received more than 140mm rainfall, while Panghet and Varasgaon recorded 120mm each in 48 hours which ended on Tuesday morning.
Stock in Bhama asked to increase to 45%, while Live Storage Pavana Dam, which supplies water to Pimpri Chinchwad, is at 40%.
On Sunday, collective stock in four dams in the Irrigation Circle of Khadakwasla has reached 9.7 TMC.
This increased to 10.1 TMC on Monday and 11 TMC on Tuesday morning – an increase of almost one TMC in 24 hours.
Officials of the State Irrigation Department said most of the Dam in Bhima Basin had recorded good rain spells in the past two days, which have caused an increase in water stocks.
“Seven dams recorded more than 50mm in rainfall each in 24 hours ended on Tuesday morning.
Vadivale Dam received more than 91mm rainfall, which was the highest among the 25 main dams in Bhima Basin.
Pavana recorded 60mm, while Mulshi received 81mm, “An official said.
Collective stock 11 TMC in four dams in the circle of Khadakwasla nearly 1.5 TMC is higher than the total stock today last year.
Irrigation department officials said the collective live water storage of four dams was at 29.15 TMC.
If the catch continues to accept good rain spells, the dam tends to be filled with capacity in mid-August.
“We have told the officials on the dam to keep the watch close at the water level,” officially added.
Meanwhile, cloudy conditions apply in the city on Tuesday.
The Indian Meteorology Department has expected heavy rainfall in isolated places in the Ghat area in the next two days.
Rainfall is expected in most places in Maharashtra Tengah and Marathwada.
