Heavy rain Forecast Causes flood threat

BHUBANESWAR: The intense storm Yaas has triggered substantial rain in many areas of coastal Odisha resulting in the danger of flood. Five cubes in the country recorded over 100 millimeter rain while over 30 cubes have listed rain between 50 to 100 mm Tuesday. The IMD has predicted some districts can witness over 200 millimeter rain as the cyclone moves throughout the country. “We’ve issued a red alert to heavy rain from the areas of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur. Paradip at Jagatsinghpur district has listed the highest rainfall of over 150 mm Tuesday,” said manager of IMD’s regional center in Bhuabneswar, H R Biswas. “There are opportunities of rain since the cyclone is accompanied by sunken monsoon,” Biswas pointed out. The approaching cyclone is forecast to hit the country near Dhamra about Wednesday noon. The IMD has called inundation of non invasive regions because of heavy rain and requested the government to remain prepared. According to the IMD bulletin, heavy to very heavy rain is likely in some areas with exceptionally heavy showers in isolated locations in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Dhenkanal and Keonjhar and thick rain in isolated locations in Puri, Khurda, Angul, Deogarh, Sundergarh around Wednesday besides heavy downpour at isolated locations in north west Odisha on Thursday. But moderate to regular rain began in coastal areas from Monday day while the level of rain and squally winds stored on rising throughout Tuesday.
