Berlin: Lightning storm hit Germany on Monday night and heavy rains flowed in the southern and western part of the country which led to dozens of accidents and hundreds of fire extinguishing operations throughout the night.
In Bavaria, several villages were flooded, including Moemlingen, near Frankfurt, where the streets were completely covered by water and mud and many basements had to be dried pumped by firefighters, the DPA German news agency reported on Tuesday.
In Stuttgart, the roof and several statues at the Opera City house were thrown into the ground by the wind.
“I stood under the roof and became very wet,” said Opera Viktor Scheron manager told DPA Monday night.
He said some parts of the stage were flooded when water flowed into the lighting installation.
About 250 people attended the show when a storm hit, but there was no injury, DPA reported.
Overall, the rescue team was called in more than 330 times Monday and early Tuesday in Stuttgart, and the train service was cut off for hours.
The cut down trees must be cut and removed by firefighters.

The number of people injured in crashes is not immediately known.
