Chennai: The low-pressure area above Bay Bay can immediately concentrate into depression and bring expanding rainfall in Tamil Nadu for the next few days, the Meteorology department said on Tuesday, issuing a red warning for Chennai and coastal districts of other countries.
The department has relied red alert to Chennai on Thursday, and for another day for other coastal districts.
The government has stated holidays for schools and colleges in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvalur, Chengalpet, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, and Mayiladuthurai Regency on Wednesday and Thursday.
While Nungambakkam received 11.1mm rainfall, the airport recorded 1.9mm rain on Tuesday.
The weather system tends to bring very heavy rainfall on Wednesday in isolated places above the Delta district, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Pulajottai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, and Puduchhery and Kara.
On Thursday, very heavy rain can be recorded in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengelpettu, Villupuram and Tiruvannamalai.
“Rainfall will be largely at night.
After November 11, Rain will significantly reduce,” said Director of the Cyclone Area Commemoration Center IMD N Puvarasan.
Many interior and west areas can also receive very heavy spells for two days.
Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management of KKSR Ramachandran on Tuesday said five people died in the incident related to rain in the districts in Madurai and Chennai.
At least 64 livestock deaths were reported across the country, and 538 huts and 129 houses were damaged.
In Chennai, 1,723 people have been transferred to 22 help centers and 147 more are stored.
More than 11.49 lakh food packages have been given to people throughout the city.
Poondi, Puzhal, Cholavaram, and Chembarambakkam Lake almost reached their full capacity.
“The steps have been taken to release the surplus of water by considering inflow and the security of the dam,” said Minister of Water Resources Duraimurugan.
