Mumbai: Very heavy rainfall recorded in the Thane District between July 18 and July 19, saw the surface of the water in the lake catch area that supplied water to Mumbai swelled 9% in one day.
This was the first time in this rainy season that water stocks increased so fast, exceeded the total on the same date last year.
Between Sundays and Mondays, the catchment area receives 150-300 mm of rain.
With heavy rainfall continued throughout Monday, officials said they expected further level increases on Tuesday.
The total water stock, as on Monday 6 in the morning, reached 4.15 lakh million liters or 28.7%-up-up from 3.9 lakh million liters or 19.8% on Sunday at 6 am.
Bhatsa, the biggest lake supplies water to Mumbai, gets 201mm rain in a 24 hour period.
Since continuous rain Friday, the water catchment area has recorded significant rainfish with Tulsi Lake and the overflowing Vihar.
Useful content today in Tulsi and Vihar are filled with a 100% capacity while the Sagar mode has 51.3%, Tanssa 54% and Bhatsa 27.5%.
The percentage of water supplied by seven lake shows the maximum percentage of water comes from Bhatsa at 48%, Tulsi and Vihar provide around 2% of the city’s needs, Central Vaitha 12%, Sagar 11% modest, Vaitarna 10% and above 16%.
At present, BMC supplies around 3,420 million liters of water to Mumbai every day.
To ensure there is no water cut, the lake needs to fill the full capacity of 14.5 latris million liters on October 1.
