Chandler: A single machine helicopter and aircraft collided at Midair on Friday near the Phoenix Airport suburban, sending a helicopter crashing into the field and killing the two people on the ship.
The plane landed safely, and flight instructors and a student inside were not hurt.
Collisions occurred in the city of Chandler near the municipal airport, SGT police said.
Jason McClimans.
He said no one on the ground was injured but the airport will still be closed for several hours.
The Chandler firefighting department received a report on fire in the brush field next to the airport shortly before 8 in the morning.
The crew found large feathers of smoke and the helicopter debris caught fire but was able to put it up relatively quickly, the fire official said.
They checked the helicopter and found the body of two people on the ship.
The Maricopa district medical examiner office will determine their identity.
Helicopters are operated by quantum helicopters and planes with flight operations academies.
Both are flight schools, according to McCliman, Chandler police.
Richard Bengoa, the owner of the flight operations academy, told the Associated Press aircraft four seats used for flight training.
The only person on the boat is the flight and pilot student instructor.
Although officials did not allow Bengoa to approach the plane, he said it appeared from a distance that the landing equipment was broken.
He said he had no information about how the collision occurred and was not allowed to talk to instructors or students.
Bengoa described its operations as “more family businesses to increase flights and help people get their licenses.” The statement from the Federal Aviation Administration also indicates evidence of damage to PIPER PA-28 aircraft landing equipment.
The agency registered the helicopter as Robinson R22.
The airport control tower operates during a collision.
But FAA officials refused to say how many staff were there, noted that the details would be part of the overall investigation.
The National Transportation Safety Board will lead an investigation into the causes of collisions and accidents.
The police are looking for witnesses or people who might have filmed the trials.
Chandler Municipal Airport does not provide commercial airline services.
