Herat Afghanistan witnessed high poverty because of a surge in unemployment

KABUL: The third largest Afghan city, Herat, witnessed a high level of poverty due to a surge in unemployment after the Taliban controlled the country.
The high level of poverty recently affected many people in the western province of Herat, officials said on Saturday, reported Tolo News.
Herat has seen a rapid surge in unemployment that greatly affects its citizens.
This happens when the United Nations and other humanitarian organizations have repeatedly created alarm for the economic destruction in the country after the Taliban takeover of the country.
The Head of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, said Habib Rahman Ruhani, said that dozens of people asked for help from the department every day.
“The demands are high.
But the assistance of the disaster management department is limited.
It depends on the emergency situation.
When floods or droughts occur, we provide our assistance,” he said.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, people received assistance from the humanitarian package provided by Turkmenistan.
The assistance consists of a vegetable pack, reporting Tolo news.
“It’s not aid — These are vegetables eaten after eating – not as food.
People struggle with economic problems,” Ahmad said, a resident of Herat.
“We want them to give us flour, oil.
What will we do with other carrots and vegetables?” said Naznin, a resident of Herat.
Some people who are vulnerable who are not listed are gathered on the site to receive assistance.
They said that poverty has forced them to stand on the line and ask for help, report Tolo news.
“I am a widow and have four children.
The price of food products is too high and I can’t buy,” Lily said, residents of Herat.
