Kolkata: Great concerns from the garbage of the body have pushed the West Bengal Heritage Commission (WBHC) to seek permission from the Canning paritosh bishop, CNI-Kolkata’s head, who maintained the Maniktala Christian funeral, to install testimonials on the wall for the author of Toru Dutt who was carried by being buried there.
Dutt, who died prematurely at 21, was the first Indian who wrote a novel in English and the first Indian woman who had written French novels.
Dutt, considered the Indian Keats, explained by the British scholar Edward J Thompson as “one of the most amazing women who had lived, a woman whose place with Sappho and Emily Brontë, Fiery and Unconfeerable of Soul”.
“Aru and Toru Dutt are figures founder of Indo-Anglian literature.
It is important that their last rest room is well maintained,” said Chairman of the WBHC Suvaprasana.
The tomb of Toru Duttthe Cemetery is currently a picture of neglect, scattered with unfolds that are not maintained and even use syringes.
On a sunny day, locals often dry out clothes while children enjoy cricket games in a cage where the tasks are buried.
“In 2019, the process of producing funds for maintenance began.
Last month, we held a meeting of the Maniktala Cemetery.
The bishop was trying to get funds to start repairing the wall to prevent encroachment,” said Sanchita Biswas, Secretary of the Maniktala Cemetery.
Litterateurs believe a stone plaque will attract visitors only if there is proactive in the maintenance of the grave.
Ranajoy Bose, managing members of the Kolkata Christian funeral board, surprised when he visited the funeral to Easter and once again for the relative burial there on August 15.
“Even though there was my previous initiative through ‘Bishwakosh Parishod’ to renovate the tombs of Sister Dutt, his cemetery was covered with tiger grass and heavy bushes.
Because the recognition and utilization of the capacity of free graves can turn it into a tourist destination,” he said.
Prosanto Chunder Dutt, whose great grandfather is the second cousin of Toru Dutt, said: “Grandfather, great-grandfather, Kylas Chunder Dutt, and Toru Dutt’s father, Girin Checking Dutt, was the first cousin.
I will be very grateful if there are advanced organizations to repair The situation.
“Not only Toru Dutt, this grave is the place to rest for LMM Banerji, the first Indian designated as a professor of operations at Calcutta Medical College.
His patients include Tagore and Radhakrishnan.
Biswas’s father and grandfather were also buried there.
“We hope that this work will be done by all day souls on November 2,” Biswas said.
