CHENNAI: Customs officers in Chennai airport captured 9.87 pound of heroin, worth Rs 70 crore, from 2 African American girls and detained them.
In accordance with some customs launch on Friday, higher alert was kept in the airport according to information which narcotics medication were expected to be smuggled into India.
Two young African woman passengers that came at a Qatar Airways flight (No 528) from Johannesburg through Doha were intercepted in the departure on suspicion of transporting narcotics.
It had been discovered that one passenger had been having a wheelchair.
But she seemed to be physically healthy.
This increased suspicion of those awake officers.
When asked about her wellbeing, the girl became anxious and gave evasive responses.
On further questioning, it had been detected that they had been carrying a single stroller tote each because their check in luggage.
It was discovered there had been false bottoms from the luggage out of where officers regained eight plastic sheeting (four out of each bag).
The packs contained a powder that tested positive for heroin when analyzed using a screening kit.
The sticks were sprinkled with a few hot powder to replicate the odor.
It had been captured under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 read together with all the Customs Act.
