Lucknow: With the inauguration of ‘High Throughput’ in the Microbiology Department at the Medical University of King George (KGMU) on Wednesday, the Daily Capacity of Covid-19 testing will now increase up to 15,000 every day from 10,000.
The number of machines to test the sample using the RT-PCR method has increased from four to seven and RNA extraction machines from one to four.
These machines will help the department increase the number of daily tests by 50%.
Inaugurating facilities, the main secretary, medical education, Alok Kumar appreciated the efforts of the microbiology department.
KGMU Deputy Chancellor Lt’s Gen (Retd) Dr.
Bipin Puri was also present on that occasion.

Amita Jain said 22 tests of the Lakh RT-PCR had been carried out in the Microbiology department which was the highest in this country.
“Samples are sent here from all states for testing.
The department is also part of the genome sequencing program to identify the novel Coronavirus variant,” he said.
“We were involved in a shared training and released advisor with ICMR at the Covid-19 pooling sample that saves the time of completion, reagents and testing of RT-PCR.
Advisor, released by ICMR, adapted by the RPCR laboratory at the national level too,” he said.
