Highways Ministry Forms Panel to check the court order

New Delhi: The Ministry of Highways has formed a committee to examine all arbitration awards or trial orders where the number of completion of more than Rs 100 Crore, in his offer to track the resolution of the dispute and avoid the trend of the award.
The committee will also suggest NHAs whether to go for the conciliation / settlement or to appeal against arbitration awards or court orders.
According to the office order, the panel led by Secretary of Jalan Raya Giridhar Aramane will also look into cases where the attraction is waiting in various courts and will suggest the highway authority about whether it must continue the case of this court or go for an independent expert conciliation (CCIE) which has been arranged by NHAI for the settlement of claims.
The total claims submitted by private contractors in disputes in the highway project carried out by NHAI are estimated to be around RS 1 Lakh Crore and Counterclaim Nhai is around RS 33,000 Crore.
The source said around 200 cases were waiting before different high courts and the Supreme Court, involving contractual problems and in many cases related to claims and cons.
The newly formed panel has been regulated after the Ministry of Finance’s direction to all government ministries and entities to place the system in place to avoid challenging all arbitration awards.
