Himachal: 175 tourists stuck in Lahaul-spiti

Shimla: A total of 175 tourists stranded at Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul-Spiti following Cloudburst and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall, said a senior disaster management official on Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner Neeraj Kumar has been seeking helicopter support from the state government for their evacuation, said a district spokesman.
State Disaster Management Director Sudesh Kumar Mokhta said sorti with the state government helicopter was planned for tomorrow because of weather conditions.
He said that among 175 stranded in the valley of Pattan Udaipur was 60 women and 16 children.
Their evacuation through the road seems difficult because the route through Pangi is not expected to be ready on Friday night, he said.
Some roads and bridges have been damaged in the district because of bad weather.
In SMS, a tourist from Punjab’s Hoshiarpur, Ravindra Sood, said, “More than 100 tourists have been stranded in Trilokinat and 35 in Fudan villages because Cloudburst has recently been in the Jhalman area, Shansha and Thirot in Lukhal Valley.” Sood said the number of people stranded in Jhalwan and Udaipur villages was unknown and the road was broken in several places between Kirting and Thirot.
Previously the sood said that the telephone network was not functioning properly.
When contacted, Deputy Commissioner Lahaul-spiti Neeraj Kumar said they were stranded had been sheltered in a temple and got adequate food.
According to the list provided by DC, 72 people are trapped in Trilokinat.
From them, 57 came from Kullu, seven of each of the punjab and bathed and one from Ladakh.
Of the seven of the Punjab, five came from Hoshiarpur and two from Sangrur, he added.
