Shimla: Sanyukt Kisan Manch, a farmer’s body that represents more than 20 clothes, protesting outside the district collector’s office here on Monday against a sudden decline in apple prices and demanding government intervention in buying it with minimum support price (MSP).
The farmers also demanded that the government have to buy plants on the Jammu and Kashmir lines through the Indonesian National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation.
The leader of Kuldeep Singh Tanwar said they would submit a memorandum to the deputy commissioner in this matter.
“We give 15 days to the government to consider our demands.
If not considered, we will hold a large Dharnas against Jai Ram Thakur Government,” Tanwar said.
Sanyukt Kisan Mancha has decided to call bandh on September 27 if the government does not take any action against the price falling from the apple.
“If the price of support for garlic in Kerala is Rs 140 A Kg, why is only Rs 39 in Himachal Pradesh.
We also demand the price of support for Apple to be on the pattern of your Jammair and Kashmir.
We demand the same price of other cash plants in the state,” Tanwar said.
He added that from 9,86,000 farmer families at Himachal Pradesh, 2 lakh were involved in Apple’s agriculture.
“The main GDP Himachal Pradesh comes through apple farming,” Tanwar said.
The farmers who protested claimed that Apple’s economy shrank in a state of the impact of large players at market prices.
