Silchar: Minister of Himanta Minister Buswa Sarma on Friday said the Covid-19 situation in Assam was “not good” but did not need to issue a new standard operating procedure (SOP) or impose new restrictions at this time.
Sarma, which inaugurated the Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) and a resident doctor hostel in Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), said the covid hospitalization level in Assam was 12% and did not need to issue a new SOP or enforce every new restrictions at this time.
Omicron cases have been detected in the state, but the variants are harmless, he said.
In Kath Lab at SMCH, Sarma said the laboratory, which was set with an estimated cost around RS 5 Crore, would offer facilities such as angioplasty, angiogram and others.
This is “a big day for Silchar and Valley Barak people,” he said.
About the 500 bed hospital proposed at SMC, Sarma said the work was ongoing and will be finished soon.
He also announced that dental colleges will be established in Silchar and his work will begin soon.
Asked about the government’s decision to establish an airport in Silchar / Cachar, Sarma said the airport will be established in Dolu Tea Garden and the necessary formalities regarding the Mega project will be finished soon.
We will ensure that the livelihoods of the people who live in Tea Garden are not affected because of the airport project, he said.
About 33 Km Balacherra-Harajao Portions of the East-West Corridor Project, the minister’s chairman said the work was full and hoping for a stretch would be completed in the specified time.
In Assam-Mizoram’s border disputes, he said this problem was resolved and that “everything was fine now”.
Asked whether there was a possibility of aIudf legislators or the Valley Congress Barak joined BJP, Himanta said there was a “no chance”.
