Guwahati: The Chairman of the Minister of Himanta Buswa Sarma has inaugurated a ‘new’ Disaster Management and Research Center in India Guwahati Institute of Technology.
This new facility was inaugurated recently in front of Prof.

Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati, Iigg faculty, researchers, and many national and international experts from all over the world.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his speech delivered for 2020 IIT Guwahati’s convocation, has asked the Institute to build a disaster management center and risk reduction that will help the North Eastern countries effectively manage various natural and industrial disasters.
This new facility was inaugurated during the seventh edition of the prestigious Quadrennial International Conference on the recent progress in the Geotechnical Earthquish Engineering and Land Dynamics (Icragee) was carried out between 12 and 15 July 2021.
The conference focused on geo-hazard risk mapping, creating Disaster, creating a disaster, creating a disaster, creating a disaster, creating a tough infrastructure disaster and collaboration fostering among universities and practitioners working on trouble related to geo-danger hazards.
Conveying the initial address, Sarma said, “Disaster Management and Research Center was dedicated to the People of Assam and all the northeast.

Overcoming the ‘Icragee’ International Conference, Prof.
TG Sitharam said, “This conference focuses on the aim of the government’s agenda regarding disaster risk reduction.
The government has encouraged the maintenance of disaster risk reduction in public expenditure, especially in infrastructure development that has become a top priority since the prime minister has launched an agenda of 10 points about disaster risk reduction.
“This initiative is for the development of Northeast India which has been late for a long time.
Many infrastructure projects such as roads, rails, bridges and airports have been taken and also finished connecting northeast countries for the rest of India not as before.
North Eastern countries are one of the most vulnerable, very important to ensure reducing infrastructure losses from disasters, including extreme climatic events.
Furthermore, Prof.
Sitharam also inaugurates an international webinar on the ‘paradigm shift in disaster risk reduction: academic role, research, innovation and policy,’ held together by the newly installed CDMR, IIT Guwahati and Indo-Japan Lab, Keio University, Japan.
He asked the State Disaster Management Authority of the State of CDMR and Assam (ASMDA) to collaborate closely for the development of Assam and build a network with various institutions in the northern region (NER) to overcome the problem of disaster risk reduction because this requires a joint effort.
Prof.
Sudip partner, head, CDMR, IIT Guwahati, welcomed officials and participants and highlighted the new Central Encourage area, the strength of the Interdisciplinary Faculty and the new center vision.
Prof.
Rajib Shaw from Keio University, Japan, delivered the thematic address.
Internationally recognized experts from FAO Dhaka, Jac Trust, UK; Institute of Global Environmental Strategy (Iges), Japan; National Institute of Caster Management (NIDM), New Delhi; The Assam Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), Guwahati delivered a study invited to this event.
