Pune: Note historian and Padma Vibhushan Awardee Balwant Moreshwar Purandare, known as Babasaheb Purandare, died at Pune Hospital on Monday after a short disease, said the doctor.
Purandare (99), the authority in the Maratha King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj soldier, was diagnosed with pneumonia a week ago and was treated at Mangeshkar City Deenanath Hospital where he died.
He was diagnosed with pneumonia because of the elderly and supported by a ventilator in the hospital intensive care unit.
His health deteriorated on Sundays and he was in a very critical condition since then, the doctor said.
On Sunday, the health of historians who declined triggered rumors of his death in the vernacular media section and a number of local news portals.
Known by his moniker ‘Shiv Shahir’ (literally Shivaji’s Bard), Purandare is considered one of the leading authorities in Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
King Shivchhatrapati, Purandare popular, 900 pages of Magnum Opus at Shivaji Maharaj in Marathi, was first published in the late 1950s and has since become a staple at the Marathi household, through many reprints for decades.
Purandare also contains and directed the history of the extravaganza theater in the life of Shivaji Maharaj titled Jaanta Raja in the mid-1980s.
Earlier this year, the price had flown from all the political spectrum on the occasion of historians had completed 99 years, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi Salam Purandare through video messages.
“Babasaheb’s work was inspirational.
I visited Pune to see the ‘Janata King’ Babasaheb game, based on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Even when Babasaheb was used to visit Ahmedabad I used to attend the programs,” Modi said.
Purandare, was born on July 29, 1922, was awarded Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award of India in 2019.
