Jaipur: 47-year-old people from Barmer, who died in Covid-19 on Wednesday, found as a human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) positive and not immunized.
Taking awareness about this problem, Rajasthan State AIDS Control Society (RSACS) has decided to launch a campaign in the state to encourage HIV-positive people to vaccinate by holding camps or by helping them reach vaccination centers.
RSACS has also increased steps to make people vaccinated against Covid-19 as 17 cases of very contagious Omicron variants from Covid-19 have been reported in the state.
“He uses antiretroviral therapy (art) for the treatment of high immunodeficiency syndrome acquired HIV, fungal infections caused by yeast (a type of mushroom) called Candida,” said a senior health department official.
Apart from his comorbidity, he was not vaccinated.
According to the doctor, HIV / AIDS weakens people’s defenses against many infections because it affects the function of immune cells leaving the immune person.
The health authority claimed that they had issued direction to encourage HIV positive people to vaccinate Covid-19.
“HIV-positive people must be vaccinated against Covid-19 because they are always high risk of being infected and their conditions can deteriorate,” said Dr.
Ravi Prakash Sharma, Director of RSACs.
At present, a total of 46,855 people in the state of antiretroviral therapy (ART), which means they are HIV positive and treated.
“We take detail about how many of them are fully vaccinated and how many are still abandoned.
We have deactivated a strategy to encourage them to vaccinate against Covid-19,” RSACS official said.
