Manjit Kaur, mother of the captain of the Indian man’s hockey team, Manpreet Singh, received a telephone call at his residence in Mithapur Punjab Village (about 6 kilometers from Jalandhar).

“I asked him (Manpreet) to return with a medal and he fulfilled my wishes,” he told Toi.
“Hard work included by Manpreet and his team-mate for more than 12 years finally paid off.
When the Olympics began, we hope from the gold medal, but bronze is equally valuable because history has been made.
I am sure India will win a gold medal, next time, “He said.
Over the next few weeks, Manpreet will get several awards and monetary rewards.
But his mother had a simple but valued prize in the store for him.
“My child really likes Aloo Ka Parathas and Aloo Ki Sabzi made by me.
It will be a gift from me.
Even though I constantly touched him through video calls during the Olympics, I waited to hug him with a medal on his neck,” he added.
Kaur witnessed all matches between India and Germany while holding a hockey stick.

He used to take part time work to support the family after Manpreet’s father was withdrawn by mental health problems.
His father died in 2016 while Manpreet competed in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.
“My mother had seen a lot of trouble.
He raised me alone since childhood after my father developed a mental health problem,” he said.
