Homeless spent the night without sleep when officials passed Bonfire Buck

By: Kusum S Chakravarty Ranchi: What is sleeping in an open place on a winter night biting in Ranchi? Ask Dhaneshwar Mahto, a homeless Rickshawpull, after pulling his reak during the day, spending the night collecting material to light a fire in Birsa Chowk to survive cold every night.
But despite the best effort, the fire did not last the night he spent shivering.
Usually administration handles campfires.
Like Mahto, Rickshawpullers and homeless people in Argora, Sujata, Albert Ekka, Hinoo and KantaToli Chowks all waiting for the administration to enter and save them from cold.
The disaster management department has provided fund sanctions needed for campfires but due to administrative irregularities, beneficiaries have been abandoned high and dry.
Dhaneshwar Mahto, a rickshaw puller at Birsa Chowk said, “I pulled my pedicab from Birsa Chowk to the Hatia Station every day.
Because I am homeless, I spent the night on the road.
Last winter, Nigam officials have made arrangements for Bonfires but this year we still Waiting, “he said.
After the disaster management department released funds, it was the responsibility of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) to regulate campfires in the city while circle officers were entrusted with work to regulate in rural areas.
RMC and district administration officials are busy past money.
RMC Deputy Commissioner of Kota Rajnish Kumar, said, “This arrangement was carried out by the district administration, it was their job.” But the Mayor of Asha Lakra admitted that it was RMC’s responsibility, “and we hope to launch it from Albert Ekka Square in one or two days,” he said.
Imtiyaz Khan, a rickshaw puller at Sujata Chowk, complained about the delay and said, “Last year too, we did not provide arrangements for campfires but we saw a pile of wood in another box.” The lack of coordination between officials seems to be the main reason for the delay.
Assistant collector Rajesh Kumar Barwar, who is responsible for making arrangements in non-city areas, funds have been allocated.
“The order has been issued for each circle (CO) officer for the withdrawal of money given.
The process of withdrawal will begin from Monday and will be wrapped in two days,” Barwar said.
Deputy Ranchi Commissioner (DC) Chavvi Ranjan, who is responsible for adjusting a campfire and night shelter for homeless people, do not answer calls or text messages.
