Kolkata: With the center of announcing vaccination for health workers, the age group 15-18 and for senior citizens with co-morbidity, a private hospital in Kolkata rushed to increase their shares ahead of January 3 when the drive began for the youngest segment so far.
Most have stopped acquiring vaccines since November when attendance has dropped only a few second doses.
With a queue set to elongate again, the hospital returns to the drawing board, saying a new strategy, employing additional personnel and ordering fresh stocks.
At the RN Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences (RTIICS), the Covidshield stock fell to 10,000 doses.
“From here, we need around 6,000 doses of booster shots for our health workers in all our units in the city.
We plan to get 5,000 covishield doses for the dose of the frontline worker booster, senior citizens and for people who have not taken their second dose.
For Children between 15-18 years, we plan to order 5,000 covaxin doses, “said Zonal Head RTIICS R Venkatesh.
He added that hospitals would wait for guidelines from the state government with further details in terms of the modality of vaccines according to the recent announcement.
Peerless Hospital has a stock of 12,200 covishield doses and only 390 covaxin doses.
“We plan to get both and will order once we complete our needs.
The meeting is due on Monday after that we will arrive at the right number.
But we will get enough to survive at least for all groups,” said CEO of Peerless Hospital Sudipta Partner.
He added that hospitals were still waiting for more clarity in modalities.
It is still unclear if only Covaxin can be given to the age group 15-18, he said.
Most private hospitals flow low at the covaxin dose because they have low demand.
The Belle Vue clinic vaccination team will meet on Monday to write down the volume of fresh orders to be placed.
The hospital has run out of covaxin.
“We will place an order immediately after the portal is open.
We now have a stock of 6,800 covishield doses, where 2,000 will be used for our doctors and health workers and the remaining 4,800 for receiving 60-added.
We will place an order for 10,000 doses of covaxin for group 15- 18, “said CEO P Tondaon.
Hospital Medica Superspecialty is left with several doses of lakh covishield and several thousand doses of covaxin.
“So, we will not immediately need new shares.
But because the crowd will return, we make arrangements to spread sufficient personnel in the counter and vaccination guidelines and advise recipients,” said Chairman Alok Roy.
The strategy for the next vaccination phase will be decided at a meeting at Amri Hospitals on Monday.
Amri is now left with 8,000 doses of covishield and 3,500 doses of covaxin.
