New Delhi: Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said honest taxpayers were deserved to be recognized because they obediently pay their tax share and appreciate the Income Tax Department (I-T) for the successful implementation of various reforms.
In his message to the I-T department on the commemoration of 161 days of income tax, he praised the department to continue to work to simplify the procedures and processes, and make its functions free of complexity, fair and transparent.
“The minister observed that honest taxpayers deserved to be recognized for the contributions they made for the progress of the nation to comply to pay their tax share …
He also praised taxpayers for carrying out their compliance obligations despite difficulties caused by a pandemic,” a word Official statement.
The State Minister for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary observed that most process and compliance requirements have shifted to the online platform and the taxpayer needs to be physically visiting the tax office has been removed or minimized.
He highlighted the fact that the interaction with taxpayers is now marked by the spirit of trust and respect, relying more on voluntary compliance.
Tarun Bajaj’s income secretary also praised the department has done well in adapting itself with changes to emerging in the economy and have been able to achieve healthy growth in tax collections.
He also appreciates the initiative carried out by the department to reform its approach to income collection, making its functions based on trust and taxpayers.
Chairman of the Direct Council of Direct Council (CBDT) J B Mohapatra praised tax officers for their collective efforts and effectively fulfilled their twin roles as state income income and taxpayer service providers.
Referring to greater and broad policy measures such as ‘respecting honest regimes’, the faceless regime and adoption of taxpayer charter, he noted that this initiative has made the department function more transparent, objective and taxpayer-friendly.
