Patna: Fake Liquor has claimed at least 66 lives in 13 separate incidents at Bihar this year so far.
A complete ban was enforced in Bihar in April 2016.
The latest Hooch tragedy took place in Rupuli Village and Vishahar Patti under the Saraya police station in the Muzaffarpur district.
Eight people died from October 28 and four were still undergoing treatments in different hospitals.
They have consumed fake liquor on October 27 night.
This is the third largest HOOCH tragedy in this state in terms of death.
Overall, six people, including Santosh Kumar, have been arrested until now.
Police said Santosh had made Hooch for the past month.
Raids are still active to capture more people involving manufacturing and smuggling liquor.
This is the third hooch poisoning case in Muzaffarpur since January and third in the state in October.
Previously, five people had died after consuming fake liquor in Dargah under the police station Katra in Muzaffarpur on February 18 and February 18 this year.
Two more villagers died in Vishanpur Giddha under the Area of the Maniyar police station from Muzaffarpur again from hooch poisoning on February 26.
One Ranjeet Kumar Singh (55) died and Safe Kumar (25) fell ill from Hooch in the village of Alkunthpur in Vaishali on October 12, four more people died from hooch poisoning in Belauri under the Guthani police station in Siwan on October 24.
At least 16 people were killed in various villages under the Nawada City Police Station area right after Holi and the same number.
The victim was reported from Lauria in the West Champaran in July.
These are the top two HOOCI tragedies in this year’s state so far.
In addition, the two HOOCH deaths were reported from Bakhri in Bakusarai after Holi, four in Kochas, one in Kargahar in Rohta, two of the city police station areas in Kaiur, three of Manjaulia under the Vijayypur police station in Gopalgil, one from Barhi Bigha on Under the Mufassil area of the police station in Nawada and one from Mukundpur Village under the Mahua Police Station area in Vaishali.
The opposition has attacked the state government of its failure to enforce a ban on the state.
RJD spokesman Chittaranjan Gagan said the ban was just an eye waste and had given birth to a parallel economy.
“Manufacturing liquor, smuggling and public supply occurs everywhere, especially in the village.
The police also patronize those involved in smuggling liquor, which leads to the death of innocent people from hooch poisoning,” he added.
However, JD (U) spokesman Dr.
Suheli Mehta said Cm Nitish Kumar was very serious at the Hooch incident.
“CM has directed police officers and excise to take hard action in all such cases and act seriously against those involved in making liquor,” he said.
Mehta said this incident was painful and could not happen at any cost.
“However, it cannot be stopped only by the government.
Active participation of the community is also needed,” he added.
