Kolkata: The government of Bengal finally allowed trucks to carry up to 25% heavier than before.
The decision will have implications at commodity prices, road traffic and security, in addition to the sale of trucks, transportation rates and government income, the Department of Transportation said.
On Monday, the Minister of Transportation Bengal Firhad Hakim held a meeting with a truck operator and conveyed to them the decision of the minister’s chairman of the revised axle weight, many with the joy of truck operators.
“At the same time, we adopt zero tolerance to overloaded,” said the judge.
He said that the transportation department would maintain more stringent vigilance at the main loading point.
The Ministry of Road Transportation and Highway (Morus) revised the axle load in July 2018.
However, the Government of Bengal did not revise it.
“It caused a lot of complications.
When we sent 9 tons of goods to Maharashtra, from there we received 12 tons, which was often confiscated by the government of Bengal as a case of over-loading,” said Sajal Ghosh, Secretary General, the Federation of West Bengal Truck Operators’ Association.
Under the new norm – which is claimed by the government will reduce logistics costs by 2% – the weight of dirty vehicles (GVW) for two-wheel trucks (two wheels in the front axle and four wheels in the back) have been raised from 16.2 tons to 18.5 tons Up to 18.5 tons to 18.5 tons.
; For trucks three axles from 25 tons to 28.5 tons; And for five axle trucks from 37 tons to 43.5 tons.
The Department of Transportation officers said this step will help reduce transportation costs and consequently, commodity prices.
Overloading is very rampant and the step will help stop it.
Transportation operators say this step will also help reduce corruption and overloaded.
“We will now enforce the rules of overloading very tightly.
We will not allow excessive vehicles to move until the expenses are removed,” said an officer.
