Pune: Maharashtra will now focus more on the sequencing of positive covid samples sent from the hospital.
So far, more supervision on samples collected from international travelers, but health officials said the eyes on hospital samples would help determine whether Omicron had the potential for people in hospitals or causing serious illnesses.
The State Supervision Officer Dr.
Pradeep calmed the sample of mild, medium and serious patients, who were hospitalized, while being collected as part of this amended strategy.
He said that because the sample collection began a few days ago, the Omicron variant has not been seen in cases hospitalized because delta is still involved in critical cases.
Daily Covid kasing rose to 9,645 in the Metropolitan Pune region on Thursday, up from 8,342 Wednesday.
At the same time, 3,528 patients were dismissed from the hospital after recovery in the last 24 hours.
Mumbai (13,702) saw a decline of almost 17% in the case of everyday while the number of countries fell slightly, from 46,723 to 46,406 cases.
However, death in the country saw a surge in third day in a row.
Hosp samples will determine the variant of the imala other health officials say the encouragement of the new sequencing strategy is to find out whether hospitalized patients with severe covid have Omicron or not.
“With a slow and steady increase in hospitalization that is noticed throughout the country, the aim of sending this sample will help calculate the severity index of a rapidly spread variant,” the official said.
The head of the CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, Dr.
Anurag Agarwal, said he agreed with the state plan to send samples from those who were hospitalized.
“This will definitely help confirm the extent to which Omicron leads to severe disease and death,” he said.
Dr.
Agarwal said the current omicron dominant in an outbreak that rose quickly and even if it tends to be severe, the health system must be expelled.
“Genetic sequencing has shown a clear community transmission from Omicron in big cities,” he said.
