New Delhi: The Public Health Expert concerned and the largest private hospital relations have launched the initiative to ratify the hospital as “friendly breastfeeding”.
This step came after the latest National Family Health survey (NFHS) showed further improvement in Caesar delivery.
Delivery of Caesar sections is associated with a prevalence of 46% lower than the initiation of the initial breastfeeding.
Indian breastfeeding promotion network (BPNI), a 30-year-old organization for protection, promotion, and breastfeeding support in India, and the Association of Indian Health Service Providers (AHPI) consisting of 12,000 private hospitals, including the center of pregnancy, has partnered to Launch National Central Accreditation (NAC) for nursing friendly hospitals.
Accreditation is for hospitals that offer maternity services and are based on who 10 steps for successful breastfeeding.
The aim is to assess hospitals about policies, programs, and practices.
More than 20 hospitals have implemented so far, and Bloom Healthcare in Chennai is the first accredited as “friendly breastfeeding”.
“According to the latest NFHs (2019-21) only 41.8% of mothers are activated for breastfeeding within an hour of birth and giving skin contact to the skin to their baby as soon as it was born.
That means 58% is not activated.
