JAMSHEDPUR: The Committee of the Jamshedpur (JNAC) area has requested the hotel to install the organic waste compost machine at the end of December.
Special Officer Jnak Krishna Kumar on Monday issued a letter to the hotel industry to ensure the machine was installed in the timeline or face action.
“From January 2022, Jnan’s sanitation personnel will not collect wet organic waste from these hotels they have to arrange the compost machine,” Kumar said.
Hotels that produce more than 50 kg of wet waste every day have been asked to install composter in the first phase.
With more than 100 plus hotels in two side by side in Jamshedpur and Adityapur, two dozen hotels plus produce large amounts of wet waste, people said in the industry.
“We welcome JNAC’s decision but must see if it is feasible to install the engine in a short time,” said the hospitality and former President of the Jamshedpur Hotel Association, Anil Khemka.
Noting that the cost of the organic waste composter around Rs 5 Lakh to RS 50 Lakh depends on the capacity and features of the engine, Khemka said the hotel industry struggled against the income crisis borne by the covid-19 sidewalk, saving several lakhs on the new initiative was difficult for the current hotel section .
Officials in JNAC, which are local urban bodies (LUB) say that 300-350 tons of city waste is produced in the city every day, 20% of the waste comes from hotels and restaurants.
JNAC implies that soon to meet with representatives of the hotel industry will be held in the proposal.
Hotelier Raja Singh said the hotels could contribute to Lub in producing compost fertilizer.
JNAC is planning a series of new ideas to improve the city waste index after it is set air 12 in the 10 lakh population category in Swachh Survekshan 2021.
It also gets RS 5 Crore’s gift money that comes second in the Safai Mitr challenge.
