Srinagar: The top Commander of Hezbul Mujahidin was killed in a meeting in Kupwara Kashmir North on Tuesday, hours after he was arrested with a grenade of the Watyen Handwara area during a routine vehicle examination.
Post-question, he had led security personnel to a terrorist hiding place in Kralgund, where he tried to attack troops, triggering a meeting where he was shot down, police said.

“During the interrogation, the suspect identified himself as Mehraj-Ud-din Halwai and revealed the location of terrorist hiding in Pazipora Renan Village in Kralgund, Handwara.
He then led the team with the Army, SSB, CRPF and Handwara police to the place for Cordon-and-Search operations.
“After reaching the location, Halwai suddenly took the AK-47 rifle that was hidden in the hiding place and fired a shot on security forces, triggered a meeting.
He was shot down in a shootout,” the IGP said, adding arms and ammunition, including ak-rifle 47 and four magazines, power banks, blankets, several other burdensome drugs and materials recover from the place.
Sopore on Wednesday observed a partial shutdown in protest against Halwai’s murder, with markets in the old city and the main Chowk area remained closed, said source.
