Dehradun: As Kumar returned to work on the morning of August 13, he did not think it would be the last time he saw his house in Kabul or that his quest to reach India would take him halfway throughout the world on the way to the whole world journey.
13,000 kilometers.
But a few hours later, Kumar found himself, along with 50 Indians, took a bus to the airport, gripping the document – which would act as a ticket – to Dubai.
The Taliban is advancing towards Kabul, but not many anticipate speed with the country’s capital will fall.
Kumar’s employer, the British Embassy, has made advanced preparation.
When Kumar reached the office on August 13, he and his colleagues distributed “tickets” for the British cargo plane who left Kabul in the next few hours and told quickly to take the bus to the airport.
“For most of us, there is no time to think or go pack.
So we take a bus.
When we passed the city, we could hear the explosion.
We don’t know if we will make it to the airport alive.
Some Talibani men open fire on the bus We.
Fortunately, the vehicle was an anti-bullet, “said Kumar, a retired army who worked in the Embassy Security Team.
Kumar was accompanied by his colleagues, Ajay Thapa, Puran Thapa and Prem Kumar – all of them were residents of Dehradun.
“On the way to the airport, we saw Afghanistan hordes trying to stop our bus.
They begged us to take them, many of them were women.
I never felt so helpless,” said Ajay.
The group managed to reach the airport safely corrected by the US military.
“We waited at the airport for a few hours until we could take a British cargo plane that left for Dubai at 3.30 in the morning.
From Dubai, we took a flight to Heathrow Airport (London) and then reached Delhi with commercial flights, landed on the morning of August 18, “said Ajay.
The total flight distance they cucups are 13,000 kilometers.
“We barely slept and succeeded with any small food available.
But we survived and got home for our family.
That’s what it’s important,” Kumar said.
