Officials HDMC has identified around 200 Borewell which will be recharged, an initiative that is estimated to cost Rs 1 Crore.
This is part of a larger HDMC goal to recharge the magnitude of groundwater in twin cities.
Over the past few years, HDMC has encouraged the implementation of rainwater harvest in twin cities, the benefits witnessed by the population now.
Sustainable initiatives have helped solve, even at the local level, the problem of water scarcity.
Commissioner HDMC Suresh Itnal said that water conservation would be the keyword civic body during the duration of the monsoon.
“In the first phase of the initiative aimed at refilling groundwater reserves in Hubballi-Dharwad, we will use the funds to the RS 64 lakh song to repair and revive Borewells,” he said.
The HDMC commissioner pointed to the need to carry out exercises when the twin cities received heavy rain.
“We will spend around Rs 35,000 to recharge and, required, repairs, every borewell.
By repairing the existing Borewell and extending their lives, we will be able to prevent new Borewell from being excavated in the future,” added itnal.
The HDMC source said that the population of many regions, especially those recently included under the PurView of the Civic Agency, continued to rely on Borewells as the main water source.
“Despite placing the infrastructure needed for a roundwater supply, we cannot ensure supply throughout the day, forcing people to take water from Borewells,” said a source.
