Hubballi: Wild dogs pose a threat to pedestrians and jogging

Hubballi: During the hearing last week at the petition submitted by the Park Cubbon pedestrian association, Bengaluru, the High Court directed Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanaagara Palike (BBMP) to develop an action plan to control street dogs inside the street park at the Pub Park.
The court stated that it intended to take Suo-Motu’s awareness of the situation and that restrictions must be imposed on a pet dog which was brought to the park by the owner because of a roaming dog inside the pedestrian pedestrian.
The situation is not different in twin cities, where jogging and pedestrians face similar problems caused by wild dogs and livestock in most parks and gardens.
Despite many requests from pedestrians and even civil activists to make dog free parks, threats of dogs and wild livestock continued to affect pedestrians.
Pet owners who carry their pets don’t even chain them properly.
In most parks, there is a shortage of security personnel to limit the entry of dogs and wild livestock.
When dogs are dirt in public places, no one cleans it.
Activists and civil pedestrians have urged HDMC to check the park for wild dogs and livestock and to appoint adequate security personnel to fix this problem.
According to Dr.
Ravi Saligoudar from the HDMC veterinary department, relocation of wild dogs is not permitted by law, but the sterilization of wild dogs is allowed to reduce the threat of wild dogs.
Wild dogs are more common in the park where the fence has not been properly installed.
Such parks can be found especially in old Hubballi, Mantur Road, and other areas.
Already, an effective sterilization program has been carried out in Hubballi-Dharwad to mitigate the threat of wild dogs, he added.
Suresh Ilnal, Commissioner HDMC, states that the Civic body takes routine steps to fight wild dogs and livestock.
However, officials will now be asked to set a special drive to get rid of wild dog parks.
Many dogs were arrested recently during the trip chasing lost dogs, he added.
DT Patil, Treasurer of Mahatma Gandhi Viauvihar Gandhi Sangha, said HDMC officials must install a fence in all parks to reduce the threat of dogs.
Many people get hurt in dog attacks, he added.
