HUID: 2.5 lakh Gujarat protest jewelry unit

Ahmedabad: About 2.5 lakh jewelry units including retailers, wholesalers, and jewelry manufacturing companies throughout Gujarat observing the total shutdown on Monday to protest the implementation of a favorable unique identification (HUID).
Jewelry says that new rules contrary to the principle of ease of doing business as a typical center can not overcome the volume of orders.
That, the word jewelry, causes large stacks in centers and severe delays in shipping in the jewelry section.
Shutdown a day, according to industry estimates, means the loss of gold and silver business worth Rs 200 Crore throughout the state.
Representatives from various jewelry associations held a peaceful demonstration on Jalan CG in Ahmedabad on Monday morning.
“Before the implementation of Huid, we can provide new orders within five to seven days,” Zaveribhai Zaveri, President, Gujarat Jewelers Association (GJA).
“Manufacturing requires four to five days unless the complicated work is involved and another day to profit.
However, with Huid in place, the completion time has reached 15 days.” Zaveri added: “We cannot take urgent customer requests.
When businesses are almost Not recovering, we lose at least 10% of customers for delivery delays.
“Kalta made mandatory from June 16 throughout the country gradually and the government has identified around 256 districts from 28 states and the United States for the first phase of implementation.
The jewelry business remains closed in response to the national strike call of around 350 jewelry associations, according to all Indian gems and the Jewelry Domestic Council (GJC).
Zaveri said that immediately after Huid’s implementation, at least 15 meetings were held between the representatives of the trade union and stakeholder industry, which aroused action in the government.
In Ahmedabad, Malek Chowk who is usually crowded, a century old jewelry market, seeing a deserted look on Monday.
Similarly, Ratapole jewelry markets that accommodate various small jewelry stores and manufacturing units remain closed.
Industrial estimates show that in Ahmedabad alone, the gold and silver business worth at least Rs 25 Crore was beaten due to the closing of the day.
The permata and jewelry industry stakeholders suggest that new rules add to the burden of jewelry compliance.
“The Huid process is complicated and requires separate entries for each jewelry and only increases the burden of our compliance,” said Hemant Choksi, a gold trader.
“Smaller jewelry can’t afford this because some jewelry making units and big traders don’t even have a computer.” Jewelry is also afraid that the government can use data uploaded for Huid to crack down on any mismatch in stocks that are hit and sold.
