Guwahati: The police on Wednesday arrested a man, who was identified as Navadeep Sharma, for allegedly involved in extortion while imitating Jayanta Malla, BJP MLA from the Nalbari constituency.
“Sharma, who comes from the Satgaon area in the city, has admitted that he extorted Mla Jayanta Mallah recently, on the grounds of providing work in various departments,” said the police statement.
The defendant was arrested on the basis of the complaint submitted by one sandeep road from the Geetanagar area in the city on Tuesday at the Bhangagarh police station.
The police further stated that during the Introduction Investigation, it had reached the light that the defendant had saved his telephone number as Jayanta Mallah recently in True-Caller, the cellular application of callers, to deceive people and commit fraud.
