Kolkata: A Baguiati man was arrested on Monday for allegedly posing as a CBI officer and cheated the pair of rs 40 lattorneys Rs 40 lakh with the pretext of giving them jobs on the agency.
Acting on the complaint submitted by the lawyer Bisang Chatterjee, Police Baranagar arrested Chrishanu Mondal (39) from the Noapara hiding place.
The police also arrested false documents, including fake CBI ID cards and a meeting letter.
Chatterjee accused that Mondal had taken Rs 40 Lakh from him and his wife promised their CBI work.
Chatterjee, a lawyer in the Bankshall Court, has contacted Mondal in 2018 after a civil court case.
“He then introduced himself as a CBI officer and also showed his ID card.
He also showed several other CBI documents after that I was originally sure,” Chatterjee said.
Allegations even gave a pair of appointments for fake meeting.
Chatterjee and his wife Indira, who is also a lawyer, gave him money after the defendant made several fake documents on behalf of the couple.
“He has submitted our ID card as a CBI sub-inspector and showed us a list of candidates where our name along with several others was referred to as an employee who was confirmed,” alleged Chatterje.
“He was booked for counterfeiting under the Sections 468, 471, 470, 472, 473, 419, 420 and 120B IPC,” said a commission officer Bodybuildercore said.
He has been returned in police custody for five days.
