Bhubaneswar: A man stabbed his friend, who was married, to death and then tried to commit suicide at his home in the Bhimatangi area here on Monday.
He was also suspected of planning to kill the three-year-old woman’s son.
Fortunately, he was not at home at the time of the murder.
The man has been identified by the police as Jagannath Pradhan (34), while the deceased is Priyanka Priyadarsini Sahoo (32).
Pradhan, who consumed poison and slashed after killing Priyanka, was rushed to the capital hospital in critical condition.
The attack motif was not confirmed.
The incident occurred when Priyanka’s husband, Rakesh, who worked in a private company here, was far from home.
Priyanka was alone because her three-year-old son went to the flat owner on the first floor when Pradhan visited him around 11am.
Rakesh said he received a call on the WhatsApp number from the unknown number.
The caller told him about the murder of his wife after Rakesh which immediately called the homeowner to be examined, police said.

Police said Pradhan, who runs a roadside restaurant in Jajpur, killed the woman after a fight.
The deceased and the defendant came from Jajpur District and knew each other, but their relationship had become tense recently, they added.
