New Delhi: A 32-year-old office guard was arrested for allegedly stealing Rs 11 Lakh from his workplace in the Southwest Delhi Kishangarh area, police said on Wednesday.
The defendant has been identified as Arvind Kumar, a resident of Kotla Mubarcpur, they said.
Kumar worked as a cum-peon in the office for the past three months, police said.
On August 16, the police received information that Rs 11 Lakh was stolen from the office in Kishangarh Village, they said.
Rakesha Paul’s complainant told the police that he was running the facility management office.
On August 14, he save RS 11 lakh in his office almirah for employee salaries and other office needs, they added.
On August 16 at around 10 in the morning, when Paul opened offices, documents, and office items spread and RS 11 Lakh was found missing from Almirah, said a senior police officer.
In Paul’s statement, a case below section 380 (theft at a residential house, etc.) from the Indian criminal code was registered at the Kishangarh police station, he said.
During the investigation, it was revealed that there were three keys from the main key of the office and each stored by the complainant, peon and an accountant, the officer said.
The police analyzed the footage of several CCTV cameras installed around the place.
Office staff were also questioned to get any instructions in this case.
When the peon was interrogated, the police became suspicious of his involvement in theft, he said.
Peon tried to mislead the police by changing his statement, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest) Amit Goel.
However, he revealed that he worked in the office for two to three months.
On Friday, he saw the owner save money in almyirah and made a plan to steal it, Goel said.
On August 15, he came to the office and stole cash.
To mislead the owner and police, he broke a bottle of wine and spread other items to make the scenery of suspicious crime, police said.
The police recovered Rs 10,42,500 from his home, they added.
