There is also a bunch of manual gastric cleaning.
The workers were identified as Shiva (25), whose body was found, and Ananthaiah (45), both of Chintal Basti in Saidabad.
Both were not GHMC staff and involved by B Yellaiah contractors, also from the same area.
According to officials, the workers used the ‘bucket cleaning’ system and Shiva fell from the stairs while entering a channel of about 10 feet.
Ananthaiah followed him because there was no response.
The police suspect that both gave toxic smoke and Ananthaiah’s body was swept away in the overflowing sewer.
GHMC officials said that the contractor was told to clean the mud in the sewer after the residents of Gandhi Nagar, Akhilandeswari Nagar, Snehamai Nagar and Padmavathi Colony complained about overflowing due to unrelenting rain.
“This is a unfortunate incident.
The work should not be taken manually.

He said detailed reports would be handed over to the GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar and the action would be taken against the contractor.
