Hyderabad: Taking another step closer to being clean and green, GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (Ghial) said on Monday that it has assigned a 5MW solar power plant as part of the second phase, taking the total capacity of its Source to 10MW.
The first phase of 5MW was assigned in 2015.
With the commissioning of additional capacity, Hyderabad International Airport will be able to cut its dependence on conventional strength by 12 million units per year, resulting in savings around Rs 90 lakh per month.
With this, solar power will now meet nearly 50% of the total energy requirements from Hyderabad airport, help reduce the footprint of the airport around 28 lakh kg of carbon dioxide per year, which is equivalent to saving 1.4 lakh adult trees, it’s a word.
The solar factory, which has been arranged for captive consumption, is spread in an area of 45 hectares and consists of more than 30,000 solar panels that can produce 10MW power.
Giah said the two solar plants have advanced ABB center inverters and poly-crystal PV panels, which are far more efficient than mono-crystal solar PV panels.
Make the second phase commissioning as a major milestone and critical steps in the right direction, the CEO of Gial Pradeep Panicker said that as a member of the Aci Airport (International Council airport), the airport operator has committed to reaching net carbon zero emissions with 2050.
