HYD: ‘Not only children, eg in Covid + Ve who are just born too’

Hyderabad: MultiSystem (MIS) inflammatory syndrome, which has so far been found in children with Covid-19, also affects infected newborns, revealing multi-city research studies involving doctors from Hyderabad too.
A total of 20 cases of eg in neonates were documented by the research team.
There are some deaths too.
The researchers found that the pandemic virus was forwarded to a newborn through the placenta or the baby was immediately infected after giving birth.
The researchers said the SIM related to Covid-19 was widely reported in the child’s population.
But not much research has been done on eg in newborns.
MIS in newborns has a clinical manifestation that is different from multi-system involvement.
Syndrome can be light or heavy.
In severe cases there are heart dysfunction in premature newborns.
The research study also revealed that the syndrome occurred after immune disregulation.
This is associated with transplavent antibodies to neonatal or antibodies developed in neonatus after infection with viruses.
The results of this study were published in the latest edition of the European Journal of Paediatrics.
The doctor from the Hospital of Paramitha Children in Hyderabad is part of a research study.
This study revealed that five of the 20 neonatal cases studied had respiratory pressure.
There is also a neonatal case that shows hypotension (low blood pressure), shock and encephalopathy (brain disease).
Laboratory reports show that inflammatory markers such as C-reactive protein, procalcitonin, ferritin, d-dimer and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) increases.
Fortunately, most cases respond to immunomodulators.
“The neonatal immune system is not mature and may not produce enough Covid-19 antibodies.
However, the recent cohort of the study shows the transfer of transplagental antibodies that are efficient from mothers to the fetus,” the researchers said.
The team warned of doctors about the increasing number of pregnant women affected by a virus pandemic during pregnancy or had received the Covid-19 vaccine.
Some may have obtained antibodies through any blood product transfusion.
“This antibody transfer to newborns may or may not cause eg neonatus.
But it can produce eg overdiagnosis by caring for a doctor if these antibodies by chance are detected during other diseases.
Thus, typing anti-nucleoprotein antibodies showed past infections than antibodies Anti-surge protein that shows vaccination status can be considered to avoid confusion in situations where there is no definite evidence of Covid-19 mother infection today, “they said.
