HYD: Water board to draw more water from the Twin Reservoir

Hyderabad: Monsoon has brought all-round cheers with all the sources of drinking water full of capacity.
Hyderabad and Sewerage Metropolitan Water Supply (HMWS & SB) is now forced to draw nearly 18 million gallons of water per day (MGD) from Osmansagar reservoir for the past week and seven other MGDs from HimayatSagar to serve Lakh consumers.
Until October last week, water boards were used to draw 12 Mgd from Osmansagar to meet demand.
The Water Council official has opened the water gate from the twin reservoir five times between September and October due to severe inflows.
“In the coming days, we can take a number of additional water from the twin reservoir,” said the source of HMWS & SB to the Toi.
Water boards should draw 40 mgd (Osmansagar: 25 and Himayattagar 15), but only draw 25 mgd now, the source added.
Meanwhile, the supply of free water tankers to the old city which was dipped after the HMWS & SB citizenship wing explained the scam in October.
Before fraud was revealed, nearly 700 day trips were made for the old city, but fell to 250 trips, said an alert.
