Hyderabad: The increase in Covid-19 cases throughout the city has achieved elective operations in various government and private hospitals with many who delay their plans.
Elective surgery is a procedure scheduled and not an emergency.
During the second wave too, a similar situation was reported with many elective operations called-off or postponed, in the middle of a raging pandemic.
Now, with the number of soaring cases, many patients scheduled to undergo knee replacement surgery, bariatric surgery, the disappearance of gallbladder stones between those who were forced to hold their plans.
“For the past few days, we have observed that people who have to undergo surgery for cataracts, hernias, among others, delay their plans.
In most cases, these are people who have comorbidity and do not want to take risks.
We don’t even recommend people To continue if there is a possibility to wait for some time, “said Dr.
Bharathkanth Reddy, Chief Operating Officer of Kims Hospitals, Secunderabad.
The doctor said that some patients also tested Covid-19 positive, just before the scheduled operation.
“Before entering for surgery, the patient must undergo a RT-PCR test.
In some cases, they turn into positive because we have to delay their surgery and quarantine,” said Dr.
B Nagendar, supervisor at the Osmania General Hospital.
Priority is given for saving surgery.
“In such cases, even if the patient is positive, we will advance with the operation because they are inevitable,” said Dr.

In addition, several medical staff and nurses have also contracted a virus, thus affecting the operation, the doctor said.
